Automotive Ferrtic Stainless Steel Tubing ASME SA268 TP409L TP439 TP410
A ferritic stainless steel tube, type 439 outperformsboth type 409 and 436 in oxidation and corrosionresistance in the most-demanding environments. Type439 stainless steel tube withstands temperaturesupwards of 1700˚F (927˚C), exceeding the limits ofboth types 409 and 436.
The grade 446 stainless steel is a ferritic, non-heat treatable stainless steel that provides good resistance to high temperature oxidation and corrosion. The following datasheet provides more details of grade 446 stainless steel.
TP446-1 seamless stainless steel tube, TP446-1 stainless steel tube, TP446-1 seamless steel tube, TP446-1 heat exchanger tube, TP446-1 recuperator tube, S44660 heat exchanger tube, S44660 condenser tube, S44660 super ferritic steel tube.
TP446-1 is a heat-resistance ferritic chromium-alloy stainless steel. It just has very little nickel content and has the following characteristic:
-Material could be used at high temperature up to 1100 grade
-Very good resistance to oxidation in air
-Excellent resistance to reducing sulphurous gas
-Good resistance to oil-ash corrosion
-Good resistance to molten copper, lead and tin
TP446-1 is the ferritic chromium-alloy material. It has the excellent heat-resistance capability and mainly served at temperature above 700, where the excellent resistance of the material to slag corrosion and sulphdizing gas is very obviuos.
The typical applications include the following:
Tube used in the recuperator in the metallurgical and glass industry
Tube used as the thermocouple protection tube
Tube used as the soot blower tube
Tube used as the high temperature injection nozzle
Tube used as the furnace tube in the wire industry
Typical Manufacturing Specifications:
ASTM A268
ASME SA268

Grade 409/409L is a titanium stabilized Ferritic Stainless Steel , most commonly known for use in automotive exhaust systems. It features good mechanical properties and high temperature corrosion resistance. As a matter of fact, 409 / 409L as a chromium Stainless Steel can also be used in applications where weldability and corrosion protection are demanded. Although it is susceptible to rust formation, rarely used for decoration purpose, 409 / 409L stainless steel demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance against gas corrosion.
Alloy TP 409 Pipes is suitable for service in highly corrosive conditions and where high strength is required. The properties of this alloy are being widely used in offshore oil and gas exploration and production and in heat exchangers in petrochemical and chemical processing.
Type 409 stainless steel has a unique chemical composition that includes:
Available Tube Product Forms:
Straight.
Coiled.
Typical Applications:
Used for parts requiring a combination of good strength and toughness, plus reasonable corrosion resistance. Typical applications are: Bolts, Bushings, Fasteners, Gas Turbine Parts, Mine Equipment, Pump Parts, Petrochemical Equipment, Steam Turbine Parts, Studs, Valve Parts etc.
Material magnetic in all conditions.
The typical applications of grade 409 stainless steels are listed below:
Grade 409 stainless steels offer scaling resistance at temperatures up to 675°C during continuous operation, and up to 815°C under intermittent conditions. These temperatures pertain to specific service environments.
Annealing of grade 409 steels is carried out at temperatures ranging from 790 to 900°C, followed by air-cooling. Thermal treatment does not harden grade 409 steels.
Grade 409 steels must be pre-heated to temperatures of 150 to 260°C before welding. Although grade 430 and 409 filler rods or electrodes can be used during welding of grade 409 steels, grade 309 electrodes or filler rods are strongly recommended by AS 1554.6. Care should be taken to weld grade 409 steels with minimum heat, in order to mitigate grain growth.
Ductility of the welded products can be improved by annealing post-welding at temperatures of 760 to 815°C. However, this is not required for thin welded products. Welding of exhaust tubing of automobiles is carried out without filler rods.
